CAMPUS PHILLY COLLEGE DAY on the PARKWAY
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 27, 2008
City of Philadelphia and Cultural Institutions Host College Student Festival
Featuring Free Concerts, Culture, Motocross, and Nonprofit Fair
PHILADELPHIA— On September 27th, the nonprofit organization Campus Philly, in partnership with Mayor Nutter’s administration and eleven cultural institutions, will welcome new and returning students to Philadelphia at Campus Philly College Day on the Parkway: a free festival featuring live music, cultural institutions, and more. 15,000 students are expected to attend the event on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, featuring performances from Armor for Sleep and The Cool Kids on the Intern U Music Stage.
“The point of the event is to help students break through the campus bubble and access Philadelphia’s great culture, dining, entertainment, and community opportunities,” says Campus Philly’s executive director Jon Grabelle Herrmann. “It should feel comfortable for you to get off campus and explore the city. With Campus Philly College Day on the Parkway, we are making it easier and even more exciting,” said Herrmann, noting that this year some students can take the new late night train on SEPTA’s R5, R6 and R7 back to campus.
In collaboration with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Campus Philly College Day on the Parkway includes free admission for college students, with valid ID, to eleven institutions, including: Philadelphia Museum of Art, Rodin Museum, Eastern State Penitentiary, Free Library of Philadelphia, The Galleries at Moore College of Art and Design, The Franklin Insttute, The Academy of Natural Sciences, University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology, Institute of Contemporary Art, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the National Constitution Center. Students can access each location through a free bus shuttle on the Parkway.
