Searching for Spring

April 15th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Today, Sunday, again it is cold and raining. Mid-April and still feels like early March.

Hoping to steal a few days of summer from spring, we went to Ocean City New Jersey last week and yes, we were April fooled by giving ourselves more of winter, while, back in Philly you had some pleasant Spring weather.

I did manage to walk along the ocean’s edge and enjoy it’s roar and expanse and when the wind slowed, I felt the warmth of the sun. Yes, it was like a Beach Boys song, without the surfers and surfer girls. At one point, as far as my eyes could see, I had the entire beach to myself.

I could not help but wonder about what it must have been like for a long ago human to stand on the same beach alone. No house to go back to, no streets, just beach and ocean.

Next day we managed to walk on the boardwalk, bought some Johnson’s Popcorn, browsed the Atlantic Bookstore. Can’t pass up a good book and bought, “Quotable Men of the Twentieth Century”. I am hoping maybe next year “Quotable Women”, will be available. I have a friend that loves quotes, but I would never give her one just about men. I know. You can find all of the quotes online but there is still a pleasure in holding a book in your hands. Besides, you can’t comfortably curl up in bed under covers with a computer.

It being the last day to report income to be taxed I give you this quote from the book, “The hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax”…Albert Einstein.

I am not going to share with you where we had dinner many nights because there is already an hour’s wait on a Friday and it is only the first week of April.
Oh! stop whining, I will tell you.
The Anchorage in Somers Point has to be the best shore restaurant for miles. It practically burned down over the winter but, thankfully, it was brought back to life and you would not know it burned, unless someone told you. Here is where you are going to find the shore dinner you expect at a price you can afford. Fried Oysters with Chicken Salad ( a Philadelphia Favorite ), Stuffed Flounder, Seafood combos, Grouper, Huge Soft Shelled Crabs, I am going to save the details for a separate post just on the Anchorage.
Enjoy what is left of this Sunday.
