Pennsylvania Democratic Primary. Make a Difference.

April 20th, 2008 · 4 Comments

The big money, the big politicians, the big media, believe they have the Pennsylvania Democratic primary wrapped up. They believe it has been in the bag since before any one of us casts a vote. We belong to the Clintons.

Before a vote was cast in the entire country, the tired old Pennsylvania democratic machine, in October of 2007, came out for Mrs. Clinton. For weeks and days on end we have heard in Philadelphia why Ed Rendell and Mayor Nutter love Mrs. Clinton.

Don’t know about you, but I did not vote for Gov. Rendell or Mayor Nutter to pick my president. I reserve that right for myself and my fellow voters.

It is almost embarrassing to see Ed following behind Mrs. Clinton at every event. What was he promised? What is he doing on every talk show that will have him? Do any of us forget how he, as head of the Democratic Party, gave away the election of Al Gore to GW?

He could not count then and he can not count now. Why, in all that is holy, would you listen to Ed Rendell about national politics? About the Eagles, yes, about the Phillies, maybe, but who to vote for as next president?

He himself, on the Colbert Report, said, “For six weeks we have been the epicenter of this worthless media attention.”

I hope you are laughing as hard as I am.

Mayor Nutter says he knows Hillary. Yo! Gettha…….. He has probably spent as much time in private company with Mrs. Clinton as I have with him. He knows Mrs. Clinton as well as you. And so what! So what!

How many Republicans who voted for the Bush are still thinking they will have a beer with him? Now there are folks of my background who are thinking they are going to have boilermakers with Mrs. Clinton?

(a boilermaker, for those who do not remember when Pennsylvania was filled with jobs for Boilermakers, Steel Workers, Miners, Shipfitters, Steamfitters, Bricklayers, and Plumbers, distilleries and breweries, is a shot and a beer. Sometimes the filled shot glass was dropped into the glass of beer.)

I wonder if she will put the Canadian made “Crown Royal” cap in the back of her car window or on the dashboard. Her twenty something daughter, Chelsea, has Vodka Gimlets, while mom drinks shots and beers. I wonder what Bill sucks back to relax?

Yo! Yo! Yo! Get a clue. Have you not watched the TV shows where people will eat worms in order to win a prize? You think this is different and you won’t get voted off when you are of no more use? Clintons are up 109 million dollars. $109,000,000.00 since Bill retired. Just regular folks. Just shot and a beer folks, and a round for the bar.

On the campaign trail, Mrs. Clinton said she was in the contest to stay. Mrs. Clinton’s aides said they could see no circumstance in which she would withdraw unless she lost Pennsylvania on April 22.

Pennsylvania can make a difference by bringing reality to the Democratic Party and the Nation at large. We are Pennsylvania. It is we who will vote. It is we who can choose. It is we who can set the agenda. The Keystone State.

Before a vote was cast, the candidate was Mrs. Clinton. Before the campaign began, Mrs. Clinton was the candidate. It would all be over by February 5th, 2008, on Super Tuesday.

The moneyed elite told us so, the millionaire talking heads on CNBC, CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC, CNN, told us so, national polls told us so, newspapers owned by the privileged told us so, talk radio told us so, Bill and Hillary told us so. The Republicans told us so and lusted for her victory.

All of the millionaire moneyed interests are still pushing their agenda, pushing what will benefit them. They would love for this contest to go on for as long as advertising dollars are pouring in.

Figures don’t lie but liars figure. No matter how the Clintons, Rendell, the news media and other profiteers try to manipulate the numbers, the numbers speak for themselves. This race is over and has been. I know it and you know it. The states are not there. The popular vote is not there. The electoral votes are not there. No matter how much you torture and twist the numbers.

In last Wednesday’s debate it was not about the environment, not about the cost of gas, not about the cost of a box of Cherrios, not about education, not about climate change, nothing about trade, nothing about South America, Africa, Russia, not about NAFTA, not about a damn thing that will help or actually have anything to do with our everyday lives.

Instead we were teased into tabloided stories about the 60’s, the 70’s, 80’s and asked to remember the good old days, the ancient past, who shot John? Is this Wright? Semper Fi, and again I say they don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows. Did you like the way Hillary is hiding her waddel with a scarf? Yes, Virgina your flag pin will get you into heaven but not my heaven. Meanwhile, McCain does not know the difference between a Sunni and a Shi’ite and is just, at 71, starting to try to understand the American economy.

We are awake in Pennsylvania. You will not pull the wool over our eyes. You will not use us, at the expense of our country and all we hold dear, to let this farce go any further.

What is sold to us as truth, is often just a reflection of the moneyed power structure, a privileged class voice that must be contested by our votes.

We of the Democratic Party in Pennsylvania will now speak. Not the voice of money, but our poor drowned out voices. Not the voice of power, but our weak single voice which together sounds like thunder. Not the gravely dying voice of the old guard, but the voice of a young and hopeful future.

We, the ordinary, work a day, tax paying, Keystone state voters. We can stop this Democratic ship from sinking into a victory for the Republicans. We can end the fruitless, desperate, attempt by the, ‘we will never give up Clintons’, who continue re-arranging the deck chairs from their failed Titanic campaign. We can finish this money making media farce of a contest by voting for Barack Obama and giving him an overwhelming majority in Pennsylvania. We can end this already over Primary with your vote and get on to winning the White House.

If not, we will, like the Titanic and their arrogant, we can’t sink owners, face the long and gruesome amount of time it will take for our endeavor towards change to slowly sink beneath the waves of history.

Let us of Pennsylvania lead the way. Let this be the high watermark of the Republican advance.

Vote for the winner Barack Obama on April 22. Let us finish this bickering. Let us fight the real opponent, a third term for the failed Bush Republican “strategery” beginning April 23.

If you care about the Democrats winning in November, end this in Pennsylvania.
Vote for Barack Obama.

    A-Men!

This is our last chance to extinguish the “politicians” of cynicism. The race in PA has been a horror show. Never in millennia did I expect a fellow democrat to resort to right-wing tactics to score political points. What makes the freak show even more disturbing is the fact that the democrat doing the attacking has no (mathematical) chance of coming out on top at the end.

I want to become CEO of my company NOW. No matter what the odds. I will peruse all dirty measure to attain my goal. Even if it will lead MYEMPLOYER to bankruptcy…

Burn the village to save it.

    DJ,
Thanks so much for your thoughtful input. I agree with your ideas. Slash and burn does not work. Especially, when those doing the slashing and burning do not know how to rebuild the village.

    Joe,
    Stick to restaurant reviews!!

Arnold, Thank you for your support of my restaurant reviews.

With the rising price of gas for my car, oil for my home heat, food, increased cost of medical and prescription co-pay and most other things, coupled with a mostly flat income and beaten down in the stock market, it is becoming more and more difficult finding money for restaurant meals.

Perhaps, after having a Democrat in the White House for a few months I and the rest of the working and middle class citizens will not feel so pinched.
