John McCain for Women.
The New York Times Web site reported the following exchange with John McCain and a reporter in Iowa in March 2007:
Q: “What about grants for sex education in the United States? Should they include instructions about using contraceptives? Or should it be Bush’s policy, which is just abstinence?”
McCain: (Long pause) “Ahhh. I think I support the president’s policy.”

Q: “So no contraception, no counseling on contraception? Just abstinence? Do you think contraceptives help stop the spread of HIV?”
McCain: (Long pause) “You’ve stumped me.”

EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK
McCain Opposed Equal Pay Bill for Women, Said They ‘Need Education and Training’ instead.
McCain skipped a vote on the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act that would ensure women have the opportunity to recover back pay for discrimination once they discover it.
If he had been there to vote, he said he would have voted against it and that women “need education and training” rather than an equal pay bill.
The bill addressed a recent Supreme Court decision that said worker Lilly Ledbetter could not recover back pay for 19 years of discrimination at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. because she had not discovered the unequal pay until she retired.
The bill would amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to allow employees to file charges of pay discrimination within 180 days of the last received paycheck affected by the discrimination. [Source: aflcio.org; H.R. 2831, Vote 110, 4/23/08; Associated Press, 4/28/008
Stop Unintended Teen Pregnancies.

Number of live births to 15-19 year olds: 414,593
Birth rate for 15-19 year olds: 40.5 live births per 1,000 population.
Bristol Palin and Levi Johnson: Phew! Talk about a shotgun wedding.

Is it okay for girls to get pregnant as a teen as long as someone can care for the baby? Is that the new reality? Is that the new message?
Republicans quickly closed ranks around the Palin family, praising the teenager, Bristol Palin, for deciding to have the child and marry the father. At the same time, the revelation focused attention on the GOP's call, in the party platform adopted yesterday, for unwed teenagers to abstain from sex.
We're Number One!
One third of the nation's girls get pregnant by age 20, the highest rate among fully industrialized nations, according to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancies. After a 15-year-long decline in the teen birth rate - attributed to more contraception and less sex - the rate rose 3 percent in 2006, according to the nonpartisan group.
McCain opposed Title X, the nation’s family planning program.
In 1990, McCain voted NO on legislation to extend the Title X federal family planning program, which provides low-income and uninsured women and families with health care services ranging from breast and cervical cancer screening to birth control.
McCain Unsure of what he is for or against.
McCain unsure where he stands on government funding for contraception.
“Whether I support government funding for them or not, I don’t know,” McCain said about contraceptives.

McCain supports overturning Roe v. Wade.
In February 2007, the AP quoted McCain stating, “I do not support Roe v. Wade. It should be overturned.” In May 2007, he reiterated his desire to overturn Roe v. Wade during an appearance on Meet the Press stating, “My position has been consistently in my voting record, pro-life, and I continue to maintain that position and voting record.”
McCain opposed requiring insurance coverage of prescription birth control.
In 2003, McCain voted NO on legislation to improve the availability of contraceptives for women and to require insurance coverage of prescription birth control.
Against abortion. Against helping women to avoid pregnancy. Against sex education. Not sure about how he supports contraception. Against funding for cervical cancer and breast cancer services for lower income women. Against a woman’s right to make a decision about her pregnancy. Teen pregnancy is okay.
Chooses a beauty contestant, Vice Presidential candidate who wants girls that have been raped by the guy in the bushes or the drunk father, to have their baby. No abortion under any circumstances. But also, no education, no funding for contraception, no help when you have the baby. Palin, a heart beat away from this 72 year old man running for President.
McCain did support a bill requiring Viagra to be covered by health insurance.
I suppose it was not hard for him to vote for that bill.
