Alexandra Day’s highly anticipated first full-length album, entitled “No Castles No Moats” features ten original songs. The vocals are whimsical and rich, expressing meaning through a widely varying palette including jazz, folk, and middle-eastern singing styles.
Backgrounds in classical and pop music converge, bringing Bach-esque cello lines into jazz harmonies, and acoustic instruments into a modern popular aesthetic.
“No Castles No Moats” is imbued with a sense of longing, expressed with complimentary amounts of vulnerability and humor. The lyrics explore phases of a relationship using a variety of architectural metaphors. A cadre of accomplished Philadelphia musicians enrich many of the tracks with cello.
